Computer technology can offer lots of opportunities to rural and remote people if they are set up correctly and given the right information. Even my older clients agree that Internet access is as important as good roads.
Unfortunately computer technical services are often dreadful in rural and remote areas. It’s not just local technical people that sometimes lack knowledge. It is also the support offered by ISPs and the technical advisers as well. I have been building computer networks and writing software for business and government for 36 years. What I see happening in rural and remote Australia is frequently characterised by poor services, inadequate technical support. inappropriate advice and a complete lack of understanding on the part of governments.
Workman.net.au is doing its bit to make things better but the truth is it’s a struggle sometimes.
